Is your home hurricane proof?

The ServiceMaster Restore Disaster Operations Center tracks global weather and potentially catastrophic events that may impact your area. Our enhanced mapping system can plot our customers homes and businesses to determine in real time, where weather threats are imminent.

During Hurricane Sandy, we were able to identify assets at risk with satellite imagery and launch a plan for individual businesses  before the disaster even occurred. We mobilized a fleet of vehicles, dryer trucks, on-site mobile command centers and industry-certified technicians that helped minimize loss and business interruptions.

Hurricanes can present a variety of threats:

  • Heavy rainfall
  • Storm surges
  • Inland flooding
  • High winds
  • Tornadoes
  • Rip currents

Taking preventative actions before a storm can reduce the effects of a hurricane disaster on a house.

  • Tie rafters with hurricane straps to your top plate.
  • Install impact resistant windows.
  • Choose solid core doors installed with hurricane-rated hardware.
  • Protect windows and doors by installing temporary or permanent shutters or covering them with plywood.
  •  Get rid of any loose items in your yard that are potential projectiles, such as branches and place patio furniture in a garage or storage units.
  • Brace garage doors to withstand hurricane-force winds.
  • Keep roof gutters clean to prevent water back up or flooding.
  • Consider installing flood vents.
